Report from Tucson, Arizona

Emily Edwards, a mother of three young children, says economic issues are very important to her in this election. Her husband is on active duty in the U.S. military and works a little part time when he can, but they are essentially a one-income family.
“The cost of living has steadily increased over the past four years. The last time budgets were this tight was in 2008,” she says.
She also worries that abortion rights are becoming too liberal in Arizona. Voters in the state will vote on a proposal that enshrines the right to abortion in the state constitution and extends the limit from 15 weeks of pregnancy to the viable period of pregnancy, generally 22 to 24 weeks.
“For me and my family, it’s too much,” she says.
Immigration is also a concern for her. She grew up in Southern California and has lived most of her life near the Mexican border, and says the rise in homelessness and substance abuse in Tucson is directly related to feeling unsafe at the border. I’m watching.
She told me she voted for Donald Trump in 2016 and 2020 and will continue to vote for him. “I’m actually registered as a Democrat, but I’m voting for Donald Trump.” Emily said some Democrats are in some voting races for other elected offices. He said he might vote for Kamala Harris, but not for Kamala Harris.
