The leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Buba Galadima, has claimed that there is a vacancy in the Asorok presidential palace ahead of the 2027 elections.
He said his position was supported by the Nigerian Constitution and guided by the will of the people.
The elder statesman made the proposal in response to the position of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr. George Akume, that there is no vacancy in Aso Rock and that Northern politicians interested in the presidency should wait until 2031 when the president takes office. went. Bola Tinubu is completing his second term in office.
However, in an interview with Vanguard published on Sunday in response to Akume’s submission, Galadima dismissed the SGF’s position, adding that he was only trying to save his job.
The NNPP leader said that by 2027, the southern part of Nigeria will have ruled Nigeria for 18 and a half years, counting from 1999, but the northern part has ruled for a total of nine years, eight years under the Buhari administration and one and a half years under the Yaru administration. He said it was only half of the time. Adua automatically means North Korea can claim the presidency again.
“Well, in the first place I don’t want to discuss Nigeria’s issues on a north-south basis. I am a nationalist and will remain so till the day I die. But the issue is about fairness and justice and for me , the sociologist and historian Acme should have known better. If you look at Aso Villa who said there is no, you know that others have been there before, namely General Buhari, General Babangida, Chief Shonekan, General Abacha, General Abubakar, Chief Obasanjo, Yar Adua, Jonathan and now President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“So even if all the 10 former presidents and heads of state who stayed there are no longer there, he must also know that sooner or later President Bola Tinubu will also leave. Nigerians act like they don’t understand history. When it comes to the region, Mr. Akume is one of the people I have a lot of respect for because he served as the governor of Benue State in 1999. one of the most important Northerners who worked for Because it’s a person.
“In fact, he was further north than the Caliphate as Acme spent most of his time defending the New Nigeria Development Corporation, NNDC and the Bank of the North. Even though he overturned what I had always believed, I laughed and said, well, he’s protecting his gari (cassava flour). Just say that.
“Did he really do a somersault? His words were clear based on his views on the gentleman’s agreement between political parties since 1999. He was talking about rotation of the presidency between the North and the South. The term of office was two times of four years each (total of eight years).
“I thought you would come back. You started from the end. I’m not going to argue about North and South, but if that’s what you want Nigerians to be educated about, by 2027 the South will be in this country. (since 1999) will rule for 18 and a half years, while the North will rule for only 9 and a half years, 8 years of the Buhari administration, and 8 years of the Yar’Adua administration. A year and a half of power means he can automatically go back to the North and make up for the deficit, if that’s what he is talking about. But I believe who has fulfilled his promise to Nigerians. Did that person who was sitting in that seat improve the condition of the people? We are going to ask the Acme player’s scorecard,” Galadima said.
The NNPP leader further asserted that since Nigeria practices democracy and not a monarchy, it is up to the people, not just one person, to decide the next leader.
“What have they done to Nigerians? Are we practicing a monarchy? I thought that’s democracy. That’s why I don’t want to talk about North and South. I wants to talk about who brought the benefits of democracy to Nigerians. But if President Tinubu does very well and his son Seyi is the best person to succeed him, I have no problem with it. How you feel will determine what you vote for in 2027.
“There is a big vacancy in Aso Rock. In fact, according to the Nigerian Constitution, there is no body that will occupy that seat in 2027. So Acme’s claim is just laughable. Hearing that he is talking about it When I saw this, I said, “My friend is protecting his garri,” Galadima concluded.
