Professor Okey Ikechukwu, an expert in strategic management and human capital development, said most politicians in the country are interested in political office purely to fulfill their personal ambitions.
Specifically, he said former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is calling for the presidency in 2027 in the name of North Korea because it fits with his own narrative and ambitions.
He lamented the lack of ideological focus between Nigeria’s two major political parties, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC), adding that the lack of ideology among Nigeria’s political parties has led to political He said that the government is able to come up with policies easily. arbitrarily flawed.
Mr. Ikechukwu also added that the lack of ideology causes contestants and candidates for political office to focus more on personal ambitions.
In an interview with Arise News, the professor said: “For me, there is no such thing as PDP or APC.If you look at the personnel, the former governor of Nasarawa was the Chairman of APC before he was ousted in very disturbing circumstances.
“How many of the most powerful people in the APC are not in the PDP, even Atiku himself?
“Let’s stop pretending. This is about an individual who wants the presidency, needs a platform to do it, and feels that if he’s on this platform and it doesn’t work out, he should go to another platform. .
Now he (Atiku) is on a platform that he doubts will survive in 2027 and is crying out in the name of the North. ”
From a historical perspective, Mr. Ikechukwu explained that since 1999, the South had held the presidency for 17 years. He added that Goodluck Jonathan would not have remained president if North Korea had opposed his candidacy.
“Obasanjo was there for eight years. Yar’Adua was there for eight years.
“The Constitution states that if the President is unable to perform his duties for some reason, the Vice President will take over. However, this is a country where anything can be set regardless of what the Constitution says.
“The North didn’t like the fact that Yaldua had passed. They didn’t like the fact that Goodluck Jonathan would take over. The principle of necessity was brought up after long negotiations.
“You have to remember that it was the North that allowed him to contest. The reason why everyone was so angry is because Jonathan didn’t meet all the criteria. It may sound like a prank, but… This case should be on the table. If there had been opposition from the North, Jonathan would not have continued.”
Looking ahead to 2027, Mr. Ikechukwu expressed the view that it would be difficult to remove President Bola Tinubu from office due to Nigeria’s political realities and peculiarities.
“For me, it’s a question of political realism. Is it possible to remove a sitting president? Yes, he is in office and, in principle, serves an eight-year term, including in Mr. Yar’Adua’s case. Is it reasonable to say that other presidents should also be given eight-year terms in principle?
“In my view, politically and practically speaking in the Nigerian context, the desire to oust him would be somewhat delusional,” he said.
“It would be difficult to make a good case that the presidency should not be in the South by 2027. I understand the context in which Mr. Acme made that statement, but I don’t think it was necessary.
“It’s not about fairness. It’s about realism. We can’t maintain fairness at this point. Even when we invoke the principle of necessity, we can’t accept that the first step is a fact of life and law. I knew that,” he claimed.
Regarding Atiku’s possible interest in the 2027 presidential race, Ikechukwu said it was more due to personal interests.
“Mr. Atiku has a point, but no matter how believable his point may seem or sound, it seems to me that he is being selfish,” he said.
