Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader Segun Sowunmi has declared that his party’s presidential ticket is not reserved for anyone.
Speaking ahead of the 2027 elections in the country, Sowunmi said anyone interested in a PDP presidential election ticket must pass and win the party’s primaries to get that ticket. Said it was necessary.
He maintained that contrary to belief in some political circles, the PDP ticket could only be won through well-organized primaries.
The PDP leader also criticized some political parties for reserving tickets for certain individuals, saying such things do not apply to the PDP.
“We are PDP and we have set ourselves up for primaries and we will not ticket anyone contrary to what people think.
“If you want to hold elections in our party, I’m talking about other parties, smaller parties, where there are always permanent candidates within the party. The votes will have to go through a melting pot of primaries.” If it counts, you win, and that’s it.
“But please, PDP tickets are not reserved for anyone,” he said while speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics.
Earlier, Naija News also reported that Sowunmi expressed uncertainty over former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s plans to contest the 2027 presidential election.
The PDP leader said he asked Atiku twice about his intention to run again, but did not receive a response.
