The Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State, Comrade Richard Nwafor, has advised former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to refrain from running for the 2027 presidential election, saying the party is seeking a new type of leadership position. Nwafor suggested that the PDP should allocate the presidential ticket to the southern region of Nigeria for the next election in 2027.
He reminded that Mr. Atiku contested the 2023 presidential election under the banner of PDP but lost.
The PDP leader also noted that Atiku had contested the presidential election before the last presidential election, when he chose Labor Party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi as his running mate, but faced a crushing defeat. also pointed out.
Mr Nwafor expressed dismay at recent speculation regarding Mr Atiku’s intentions to seek the presidency in 2027.
He stressed that in 2023, numerous attempts were made by members of the PDP, especially those from the southern region, to persuade Mr. Atiku to allow members of the southern party to secure a presidential candidate, adding that such It asserted that the move would promote equity, equity and social justice in the country. party.
