Sony Music Entertainment (known as Sony Music and abbreviated as SME) is an American label and company owned by Sony. It is incorporated as a general partnership of Sony Music Holdings Inc. through Sony Entertainment, a subsidiary of Sony Corporation of America.
Sony music has over eighteen record labels under it, making it the second largest after Universal Music Group (UMG).
Nigerian musicians were not left out as some of our top notchs in the music scene also have deals with Sony.
Here are the Nigerian musicians who have deals with the company:
1. Tekno
Tekno is the newest Nigerian member of the Sony family with his record deal which was officially signed in January 2017.
The “Pana” Crooner Moved for a whooping $4million dollar deal with Sony.
2. Tiwa Savage
In 2009, Sony/ATV Music Publishing signed Tiwa Savage to a music deal. The deal solidified her to write for Babyface, Kat Deluna, Fantasia Barrino, Monica and Mýa. Her collaboration with Fantasia on the song “Collard Greens & Cornbread” earned the American recording artist a Grammy nomination in 2010.

3. Davido
In 2016, Davido signed his record deal with Sony BMG. The record deal will see him release two albums.

4. D’banj
In December 2012, D’banj signed a mega deal with Sony. The deal was described as a “Pan African, multi-album deal with Sony Music’s RCA Records. It also involves an exclusive management deal with Sony Music and strategic partner ROCKSTAR4000 for the continent. Add to that a multi-album, worldwide exclusive contract with emerging Nigerian singer-songwriter star Kayswitch and a strategic partnership with his Nigerian record label DB Records

5. Nneka
Nneka Egbuna was the first Nigerian to be signed to the record label in 2003. The Nigerian-German hip hop/soul singer went on to release her debut album ‘Victim of Truth’ in 2005.

6. Wizkid
Wizkid signed his record-breaking deal in September 2016 and it is rumoured to be the biggest ever signed by an African artist, with Sony Music subsidiary RCA Records. According to NotJustOk, Wizkid “will receive a 7 figure advance (in US Dollars) and sign to RCA Records who will handle his distribution deal in the United States.

7. Ycee
Ycee of Tinny Entertainment wasn’t left out as he joined the Sony Music family as well. The unprecedented deal will see his first E.P, ‘The First Wave’ released under the Sony umbrella.
