Senate President Godswill Akpabio has said outgoing Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki has betrayed his predecessor, Adams Oshiomhole.
He claimed that Obaseki was against Oshiomhole and democracy.
Akpabio said this during a debate on the floor of the Senate.
“The man you brought in as governor (Mr. Obaseki) was against you and against democracy,” Akpabio said.
In response, Mr Oshiomhole said: He was elected and I supported him just like you supported Governor Udom. ”
Naija News reported that Oshiomhole enabled Mr Obaseki to become governor in 2016 against the wishes and advice of the All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership.
With the support of Mr. Oshiomhole, Mr. Obaseki defeated the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu.
Two years into Obaseki’s tenure, party leaders have expressed dissatisfaction with his failure to incorporate them into his government.

Meanwhile, Akpabio urged Nigerians to prioritize love for the country over economic gain.
Akpabio spoke on the Senate floor on Tuesday.
The Senate President asserted that the country will be better off if its citizens who are skilled in various fields stay in the country.
“This country is losing expertise. It would have been better if they had come back to Nigeria with such expertise,” he said, commenting on the motion to deal with mass immigration of Nigerians. he said while doing so.
“I also think that working conditions are very responsible. I believe that people should prioritize love for the motherland above economic interests.
“That’s why so many of us choose to stay here,” he added.
Mr. Akpabio said the large-scale migration of Nigerians was having a negative impact on the country’s health sector.
He said, “Brain drain is a big problem not only in the education sector, but especially in the health sector, and it has a huge impact on us.
“America’s greatest medical professionals, I read that there are about 22,000 Nigerian health care workers in the United States, and some say they are doing very well.
“I’ve seen it in various reports.
“There are too many disadvantages in the education sector, with some departments lacking staff strength by up to 50%.
“So what are you teaching our kids? It’s like a computer, garbage goes in and garbage comes out.”
The Senate President said the National Assembly will continue to do its best to improve the lives of teachers so that they can stay in the field and influence future generations.
