Jigawa State Governor Umaru Namadi has suspended his Special Adviser on Salaries and Pensions, Bashir Addo, for his comments on the minimum wage of ₦70,000.
Naija News understands that a statement was circulated in various sections of the media that the state governor had approved a new minimum wage of ₦70,000 for workers in the state.
However, in a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Bala Ibrahim, in Dutse on Saturday, the governor explained that the committee set up by the government to advise on appropriate wages is yet to complete its task.
“This is embarrassing and premature given that the committee set up by the government to advise on appropriate pay, chaired by the National Civil Service Secretary, has yet to finish its work and submit a report. You will hear it,” the statement reads.
Mr. Ibrahim explained that as a result of the development of the situation, the governor approved the immediate suspension of Mr. Addo pending the outcome of a committee set up under the State Attorney-General and Attorney General Bello Abdulkadir.
The SSG added that the committee has two weeks to submit its report, which will investigate the source, the actual content of the alleged statements and the motives behind them. .
Ibrahim was appointed Secretary for Information, Youth, Sports and Culture Sagir Musa. The committee members were Dr. Abdullahi Muhammad, Secretary of Health, and Muhammad Hahaha, Permanent Secretary for Establishment and Service Affairs of the SSG Office.
