Some members of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Niger State have publicly rejected the leadership of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso in the party.
According to a report in Naija News, Dr. Gilbert Agbo, the national chairman of the faction that spearheaded the anti-Kwankwasiya campaign at the party secretariat in Minna, said that Kwankwaso and his Kwankwasiya faction pose a grave threat to the progress and survival of the party. He claimed to be bringing about it.
During the North Central Zone meeting in Minna, Mr. Agbo said Mr. Kwankwaso’s suspension by the National Working Committee in Lagos had nullified his membership and influence within the party.
Agbo also oversaw the burning of the Kwankwasiyya group’s distinctive red cap at the party’s state secretariat, marking a decisive break from the Kwankwasi faction.
It further announced that Governor Kabir Abba Yusuf of Kano State will appear before the party’s disciplinary committee for failing to abide by the party’s principles and mandates.
In response to these developments, Malam Danladi Umar Abdulhamid, leader of the Kwankwasiya Movement in Niger State, claimed that Mr. Agbo’s position as the national chairman was unfair, saying that the action taken was not in the interest of party members. He claimed it served a personal purpose.
Mr Abdulhamid asserted that Mr Kwankwaso continues to be recognized as the national leader of the party under the leadership of Dr Ahmed Ajuji.
