The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State says it is invincibly poised to defeat other political parties in any election across the state.
The party’s Public Relations Secretary in the state, Mr. Alex Kalejaiye, said this in a statement issued in Akure on Wednesday.
NAN reports that the statement was apparently in response to Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, who called on people of Ondo State not to sell their conscience.
Kalejaye said the recent defection of prominent political giants from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has further increased the chances of APC winning the November 16 governorship election.
“We believe that unsolicited advice to citizens not to sell their conscience is an insult.
“It is a well-known fact that Ondo people are politically sophisticated people who always act on their beliefs. It is not as cheap as Mr. Makinde’s branded products,” he said.
An APC spokesperson said the party in the state was shocked by the governor’s call for the immediate transfer of the state Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Toyin Babalola, ahead of the gubernatorial election.
“The state chapter wishes to remind the governor that neither Ondo State nor the electoral body is an appendage of his empire, which he governs as ruler.
“The party notes that the election officials have demonstrated sincerity, competence and ability to handle any election since taking office.
“We find it extremely ridiculous that Governor Makinde would issue such a directive when he had no influence on the transfer of Mrs. Omobolanle to Ondo State and is not a party to the political space in the state. I’m thinking.
“Our advice to the governor is to focus on the myriad issues currently facing Oyo State,” he said.
Mr. Kalejaye commended APC members for their unwavering faith in the party and urged them to show maturity and courtesy as the party continues to seek renewal of the people’s mandate in the upcoming governorship election.
