The lawmaker representing Abia North Senatorial District, Orji Uzor Kalu, on Thursday said he is qualified to become president in 2027 and intends to run if President Bola Tinubu does not run for a second term. added.
Cull made the comments in an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday night.
“First and foremost, I want to say that I am qualified and competent to be president. Unless he runs, our party already has a candidate. If the party raises the party flag on me, Wouldn’t it be a privilege and something I would love if I were given the opportunity? It’s not about me. My interest in 2027 is to come back and be an MP. Become a senator and serve in the Senate.”
Commenting on Nigeria’s predicament, Kalu said Nigeria is in this situation because it lacks economic processes and an organized economy, adding that he believes the government should cut spending.
He added that President Tinubu is working to restore the system, noting that his (President Tinubu) decision could be right or wrong.
“There are records of global deflation all over the world. In Nigeria, the situation is bad because there is no economic process. Since 60 years ago, we have not had an economy. There is no organization here. We don’t have a structured economy. We have no light, we have nothing, the stock exchange is just being built. The institutions that drive the economy are very weak and President Bola Tinubu has built them. This is what we’re trying to rebuild to make sure it’s stronger.
“Because if we continue with these benefits and the economic downturn, we can’t continue. Someone has to make the tough decisions. He may be right, he may be wrong. The question is, are they hungry? The answer is yes. But we made no decisions at all, which made us look even worse.
“Government officials should maintain austerity, and I believe they should: sewing more coats to our sizes, scaling back most of the things government officials do, We should further reduce the gifts our government gives to other countries and cut back on so many things,” the senator said.
