The immediate past Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, has refuted claims of factionalism within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), saying the party remains united under the leadership of the current National Working Committee (NWC) Chairman, Umaru Damagum. He claimed that there was.
Mr. Ortom made this declaration during a gathering with newly elected Benue State Working Committee (SWC) members of the PDP at his Makurdi residence.
He stressed that the Damagum-led NWC is the officially recognized party leadership and that the suspicions of division are baseless.
The former governor acknowledged the challenges faced by the party in the current crisis, but commended the efforts of the Damagum-led committee to tide over the difficult times.
He called on party members to refrain from criticism and instead support the leadership with prayers.
Ortom said, “The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has no factions and we remain committed to fairness, equity and justice. I have not deviated from that idea and we remain dedicated and loyal to the party. I am.
“We do not want to be dissidents and we do not belong to dissidents. Therefore, we support the National Working Committee of our party, NWC, led by Damagun. They’re not perfect, and no one is.
“They have done their best in the fog of challenges we have in PDP and they should be praised rather than blamed.
“If there is a problem, there are various organs of the party leadership to deal with it. There is a Board of Directors (BOT), there is a Governors Forum, there is a National Executive Committee (NEC), there is a National Working Committee ( NWC) itself, including other stakeholders. If there are issues, they need to be discussed at this level.
“They’ve done well, they've done their best. If there’s an issue, our party has a constitution to look at it.
“So I see no reason to condemn them. They have done well. Therefore, we support them and continue to work under their direction and otherwise work for them. , pray for them.”
