The United Congress of Political Parties (CUPP) has criticized the simultaneous absence of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kassim Shettima as a serious failure of leadership.
Naija News reported that the reprimand came after the two leaders embarked on a foreign trip even as Nigeria faces a deepening economic, security and currency crisis.
Expressing the coalition’s concerns, CUPP National Secretary Peter Arme said: “The simultaneous absence of President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima is an unacceptable dereliction of duty. Nigeria’s decision to leave is irresponsible and unpatriotic.
Mr. Ahume stressed that this leadership gap is exacerbating Nigeria’s already unstable situation.
“With the naira plummeting to record lows and inflation soaring, the country desperately needs strong and consistent leadership, not absenteeism,” he said.
He further noted that the absence of both leaders will create a governance vacuum that will stall important decisions and further weaken Nigeria’s fragile economy.
“The president’s reassurances mean little because there is a clear power vacuum,” the CUPP secretary said. In the absence of leadership, how can Nigeria expect international investment and support? ”
Mr. Ahme called for immediate action and urged both leaders to return home and address the nation’s pressing problems.
He also called on the National Assembly to take steps to address governance deficiencies, saying, “Although I have all but lost confidence in the leadership of the National Assembly, I still urge the National Assembly to ensure accountability and prevent further governance failures.” “I will ask for it,” he said.
