Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has said that the acting national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Ilyas Damagum, is not his friend and has never supported him. said.
Wike said this while addressing his supporters and PDP members in Port Harcourt on Saturday.
Naija News reports that supporters of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar have suspended Mr Damagumu and National Secretary Sam Anyanwu, both of whom are seen as allies of Wike.
The party’s governors are calling for an NEC meeting to find a lasting solution to the crisis, which has polarized the party.
Wike, however, denied reports that Damagum was his friend.
The minister said Mr. Damagum wants to ensure that Mr. Iyorukia Ayu completes his term.
“They are saying Damagumu should go. I am not a friend of Damagumu. He never supported me,” the former Rivers governor said.
“The truth must always be told. We agree that Damagum should fulfill Ayu’s term. But please tell me why we should be careful in trusting people. …The guys who sat down with us and agreed to it…I saw something and thought, this guy, this guy, I can’t trust you,” he added.
