Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has advised Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 elections, to stay away from politics.
Fayose said Atiku will be too old to contest the presidential election by 2027, adding that Nigerians are in desperate need of a young leader.
In an interview with The Nation, Mr. Fayose chastised the former vice president to leave the stage if there was loud cheering.
He said: “As for Mr. Atiku Abubakar, I am convinced that out of respect for his age, he wants to once again distance himself from competitive politics.
“By the time the incumbent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu finishes his first term, Mr. Atiku will probably be 80 or 81 years old. At that age, what is the appeal? I think Nigerians are desperate for the younger generation. So, on what basis does Atiku want to compete again?
“I’ve always said that you can defeat APCs, but if you don’t have a party, how can you defeat them? You complain about APCs, but if you don’t have a party, how do you have a strategy?” Can we take action?
“As it stands, Peter Obi, the Labor Party candidate for the 2023 presidential election, is almost becoming the voice of the opposition. So where is the party? The party is over! The party is over!”
