Nigeria’s U-17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, were eliminated from the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup after losing 2-0 to the United States in the quarterfinals on Saturday.
The match was a rematch of the 2022 quarterfinals, which Nigeria won.
However, the American team proved to be too strong in this match, scoring goals in either half to secure a spot in the semi-finals.
The Americans scored the first goal with a penalty kick in the 43rd minute, giving them a 1-0 lead. Nigeria fought hard to equalize but could not find a breakthrough.

Kimi Ascanio’s second goal in the 74th minute sealed Nigeria’s fate and brought an end to their impressive World Cup campaign.
Despite the loss, the Flamingos had a strong tournament, with convincing wins over New Zealand and Ecuador, and a win over the hosts Dominican Republic to top their group.

The Flamingos, who won the bronze medal at the 2022 India Games, will be disappointed that they were not able to surpass or match their previous performance this time around.
