The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kaduna State has said it will challenge the legitimacy of local government elections to be held across the state on October 19 in court.
The party condemned the exercise by Governor Uba Sani that purported to secretly swear in the chairmanship of the 23 local government councils in the state, calling it shameful and an attack on democracy in the country.
Recall that the Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission (KADSIECOM) has declared candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as winners of all 23 chairpersonships and 255 parliamentary seats in the state.
The Chairman of KADSIECOM, Hajara Mohammed, disclosed this on Saturday, October 19, in Kaduna.
Mr. Muhammad said: “The Electoral Officers and Returning Officers have submitted their reports. APC has won all 23 chairpersonships and 255 council seats.”
However, the PDP made its stand clear on Friday in a statement signed by its Public Relations Secretary, Maria Dogo, made available to reporters in Kaduna.
The statement said: “PDP is not surprised by this secret move as it is clear that these persons were never elected by the people but were imposed by the dictator of Sir Qasim Ibrahim House. .”
“We reiterate that no local government elections were held in Kaduna State on October 19th.
“Therefore, any acts by these fraudsters such as issuance of certificates of return, oaths and inauguration are futile and cannot withstand the test of time and law.”
“PDP assures the good people of Kaduna State that it is already in court to challenge the validity of the electoral law passed and rushed into the electoral process.”
The statement further added that the law provided a false basis for corrupt, insane and unskillful political predation by “Governor Uba Sani, APC and their shameless KADSIECOM Chairman Hajji”. Hajara Mohammed.
“KADSIECOM shamelessly declared APC the winner of 23 chairpersonships and 255 councilorships in an election that did not take place.
“We are committed to pursuing this case all the way to the Supreme Court to ensure justice and protect democracy in Kaduna State.”
The paper recommended that what it described as “conscripted city council presidents with limited terms” would be held accountable for mismanagement of local government funds.
The statement reminded the chairs that they were appointed by the governor “as a conduit to siphon the monthly federal budget.”
He added that the APC’s action was a call to anarchy and self-help, adding: “We urge the good people of Kaduna State to remain calm and remove these people from public office through courts and new elections. We urge you to join us in this effort.” Tidy.
“Under the leadership of Chief Edward Percy Marsha, democracy will prevail in Kaduna State and the people will have the final say. I can guarantee you this.”
