The 20th African Movie Academy Awards was held on Saturday, November 2, 2024 at the prestigious Balmoral Convention Center in Ikeja, Lagos.
Filmmakers from around the world gathered at the awards ceremony to celebrate and recognize outstanding achievements in African cinema.
The event served as a platform to celebrate the best in the industry, bringing together talent from diverse backgrounds.
Veteran Nollywood actor Segun Arinze and Ghanaian television presenter and actress Jocelyn Dumas hosted the prestigious awards ceremony.
Filmmaker and author Dorothy Wenner chaired the award’s 12-member jury.
Among the night’s top winners was the Nigerian-directed drama “The Weekend,” which won the “Best Film” award for Nigeria and Africa.
Nigerian film director Femi Adebayo won the ‘Best Supporting Actor’ category for his historical thriller ‘Jagun Jagun’, while Elsie Abban won ‘Best Supporting Actress’ for ‘KIPKEMBOI’.
Michel Lemya won the ‘Best Young Actor’ award for ‘NAWI’, followed by South Africa’s Zolisa Shaluba who won the ‘Best Leading Actor’ award for his role in ‘Queenstown King’. Ghana’s Jackie Appiah also won the “Red Carpet” award for “Best Actress.”
