The newly elected leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State has vowed to work to reunite former party members to form a strong coalition government to regain control of the state in 2027.
Naija News reports that the PDP elected Peter Nwere as its new chairman at the state assembly held at the weekend in Abakaliki, the state capital.
Speaking during the event, Mr Nwele highlighted that Ebonyi has historically been a stronghold of the PDP and asserted that the party will make a big comeback in 2027.
The meeting was overseen by a seven-member committee of the party’s national secretariat, along with representatives from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and various security agencies.
“Ebonyi State has been PDP for a long time and will continue to be PDP.They say there is a crisis in the Democratic Party, but there is no crisis in the party.
“All we want to do now is start bringing back those who have left the party.
“PDP is a very big family that can accommodate all of us, so we are ready to bring everyone back home.
“We are asking for forgiveness. We will make peace so that our people can return home to reclaim their lost mission,” said the newly elected Ebonyi PDP chairman.
Chairman of the parliamentary committee, Ugonna Ogbonna, characterized the event as peaceful and transparent and commended party members for their orderly conduct.
Further, the National Vice-Chairman of the party, South East Region, Chief Ali Odefa, expressed that enthusiasm and love for the PDP in the state and across the country remained strong.
He asserted that the party is actively organizing efforts to take back power from the APC in the upcoming 2027 elections.
Odefa rejected the notion of discord within the party, saying: “There is complete reconciliation, the NWC is united and we are united.”
He called on the newly elected party executives in the state to focus on comprehensive reconciliation efforts.
