Nigerian activist and politician Omoyele Sowore has spelled out why he cannot form a coalition with Labor’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi.
Mr Sowore said the former Anambra State governor was contesting the presidential election long before he emerged as a prominent figure on the national stage, insisting that Mr Obi was no different from other corrupt politicians.
In his book, he emphasized that there are no less evils and vowed never to support any Nigerian leader who in his view underperformed while in political office.
The 2023 African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate stressed that the only advantage of Obi is that he can express himself more effectively.
Naija News reported that Mr Sowore made the remark when he was featured on a recent episode of the Honest Bunch podcast.
“Before you discovered Peter Obi, I was already running for president. All these cries about Peter Obi…he just knows how to package. Anyone can do it .
“If I join Peter Obi (form a coalition), I will be going against what I have always stood for, which is to have a Nigerian leader who has ever held any political office and perform in front of him. That means I will never support someone who is considered without,” Sowore said.
He added: “That is the same reason I would never join hands with Atiku. And Peter Obi, of whom you are talking, was Atiku’s running mate when I was a presidential candidate in 2019. It was.
“So what are we talking about? There’s no more evil in my book. If you’re evil, you’re evil. If you’re good, you’re good. I’m a performer.” I have a general disdain for the lack of it.”
