Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has said he has not been approached to support the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Agboola Ajayi, in the Ondo State governorship election scheduled for next Saturday. Ta.
Speaking at a press conference with selected journalists on Wednesday, Mr Wike stressed the need for proper consultation before announcing support, saying: My party has not contacted me seeking support for the Ondo State governorship candidate. ”
Recalling past instances, Wike recalled how the PDP formally approached him during the Bayelsa State election, which resulted in them supporting the successful candidacy of Governor Duye Diri.
“I gave him my full support. When I say support, I gave my all and he won,” Wike said.
In contrast, he recounted his rejection of an invitation from former Governor Godwin Obaseki to support PDP candidates in the recent Edo State elections.
“I don’t support Obaseki. Then they said if I don’t support him then I should remain silent, so I agreed to remain silent,” he said.
Commenting on his relationship with Ondo’s PDP candidate, Mr. Ajayi, Wike revealed that he has not been in touch with him recently.
“I have never seen him. The last time I supported him was in his campaign against Eitayo Jegede after he resigned as deputy governor under the late Rotimi Akeredolu,” Wike said. he said.
Wike expressed disappointment at the lack of communication by the PDP regarding the Ondo elections and criticized the current leadership of the party.
“The PDP has never faced such poor leadership especially from the Chairman of the Governors Forum,” he said.
Naija News reported that Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, leader of the PDP Governors Forum, is at loggerheads with Wike over the management of the party.
Meanwhile, Wike stressed the need for dynamic leadership and effective mobilization to regain power in Ondo State, saying, “To be a leader, you must have the ability to energize the people. We should show that we are prepared to do so.”
