The Social Democratic Party (SDP) gubernatorial candidate in Ondo State, Bamidele Akingboye, has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to pursue politicians who brought money into the state for vote-buying purposes.
Mr. Bamidele Akingboye, who raised the alarm while speaking to journalists, called on the EFCC to raid a hotel in Ijako area of the state to ensure the seizure of funds allegedly used to buy votes.
The SDP candidates said they have decided to act in accordance with the rules set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and expect other candidates and their political parties to follow the rules.
“If the EFCC Chairman did not tell us where the money (bags) they brought into Ondo State, Ghana, was, they were carrying them everywhere indoors.
“We are seeing them draining a lot of money. If they want a job, they should go and destroy all the hotels in Ijako tonight. There will be a lot of money there. Where did they get that cash?
“I have decided to abide by the rules and regulations of INEC. If you love me, vote for me. If you don’t love me, if you want to collect money, collect money. But I will not go against INEC regulations because if they find out that I am using money to buy votes, I will be breaking the law,” Akingboye said.
Speaking on his chances of winning Saturday’s gubernatorial election, Akingboye explained that he has been in the campaign for 24 years out of a desire to liberate his people.
He pointed out that the sun is not shining in the Sunshine State because of bad governance. He promised to revive Ondo’s economy and rescue its residents.
“I am the only candidate that Ondo State needs for now, I am likely to be the only one. I am the only candidate that Ondo State needs. Ondo State is already bankrupt.
“We should just be there, be there, be there (on top). And to everyone who wants to know, I have been in Ondo State for 24 years and trying to be Governor of Ondo State is just I told him I wasn’t kidding.
“I’m here to serve the people. I’m here to send people off, and I’m here to make Ondo’s sun shine again after it fell to the ground,” he added. .
