The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate in Ondo State, Agboola Ajayi, cast his vote on Saturday amid allegations that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had compromised the electoral process.
Mr. Ajayi arrived at polling station 4 in Idumadu area of Kiribo in Ese-Odo local government area almost two hours after voting began.
However, his certification process was marred by delays caused by the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machine.
Speaking after the vote, Mr. Ajayi expressed dissatisfaction with INEC’s handling of the exercise.
Mr. Ajayi highlighted the challenges faced during the certification process, which took about five minutes for INEC officials to resolve due to technical issues with the BVAS machine.
While praising the peaceful conduct of the voters, Mr. Ajayi called on INEC to address deficiencies and ensure transparency in the exercise.
“Things are not going well. It took more than 10 minutes to get hold of me as a PDP candidate,” Ajayi told reporters.
“If INEC cannot successfully conduct elections in one state, we must know that we are in anarchy.
“I think this is intentional on the part of INEC, REC. We have said many times that we do not trust Barrister Olatoyin Babalola and there is no way this woman can be fair. The system has been compromised.”
