The Minister of Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has revealed that the ministry has lodged a complaint with the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, over the harassment suffered by some Nigerians at various airports in the country.
Mr Keyamo said he had received various complaints about misconduct by some security personnel at the airport.
The minister said this during an appearance on Channel TV’s Sunday Politics.
He pointed out that although these acts were not caused by Civil Aviation Ministry employees, he was concerned about the harassment of passengers and approached the NSA to take action.
“We have filed a complaint about this with the National Security Adviser because we are concerned about harassment against Nigerians. Please note, this is not an airline or Keyamo. I often see someone tagging someone with “I just asked for a bribe from someone”, but it’s someone from another agency.
“They always tag me, but it’s not me, it’s not the airline. We have to complain to the Office of the National Security Advisor, who is doing a lot of work on this. No,” Keyamo said.
The minister revealed that the NSA has acquired around 1,000 body cameras for security agencies to enhance monitoring of activities at airports.
“As I said before, the training is almost complete and he has purchased 1,000 body cameras for all agencies to wear.I would like to start with the training. We have a command center for this. , everyone can see exactly the moving camera on their chest,” he added.
However, he opposed calls for most security agencies to be withdrawn from the airport, saying their activities needed to be monitored to ensure they met the required standards.
He cited the arrest of drug traffickers at the airport as one of the reasons why the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) should be present at the airport.
“These agencies should be at the airport, but they should be outside of you. They should have a private room inside. When you suspect someone, pull them out, take them to a restricted area, Check the person.
“You don’t see NDLEA doing baggage screening at every stop, you don’t see DSS doing baggage screening, that’s what we don’t want, that’s what Nigerians don’t want. , that is why we have to do it to please Nigerians,” he said. Said.
