Labor Party (LP) National Women’s Leader Dudu Manuga has condemned the level of cyberstalking and intimidation against some women.
She warned Nigerians against labeling female politicians as prostitutes.
The politician shared his thoughts in commemoration of the 2024 International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and Girls in Abuja.
She urged women in politics not to be afraid of emotional and psychological violence from men.
She said: “Today we commemorate the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and Girls.
“Secondly, this is the beginning of 16 days of action against gender-based violence, which we call the Orange Campaign.
“Violence against women is so prevalent today. It’s not just a matter of rape and sexual assault. Harassment, intimidation, and all kinds of other problems also occur in office environments.
“Again, violence is something that women in politics, like all of us, experience on many different levels. It’s so bad that when you go to buy forms in your constituency, you’re like, “There’s nothing there. It’s not uncommon for people to say things like, “Please don’t go.”
“That’s a man’s position.” That alone is emotional and psychological violence because it puts you in a state of constant anxiety.
“Some women face cyberstalking and intimidation from people who are supposed to know a lot about cyberspace. There are still a certain number of people who view women in politics as prostitutes. It’s become a common story in this country.
“Some people perceived female politicians as dissolute and self-indulgent women. But that’s not true. During heated debates in political arenas, they are directly attacked and asked, ‘Who are you?’ ” may end. You guys are just prostitutes. ”
