President Bola Tinubu has a good chance of winning the 2027 presidential election, says Segun Sowunmi, leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the party’s former Ogun State gubernatorial candidate.
He said anyone who discounts Tinubu’s chances of winning the 2027 presidential election is a fool.
In an interview with DAILY POST published on Friday, the PDP leader said a number of factors could work in Tinubu’s favor, including incumbency and public perception.
But Sowunmi added that the opposition could unseat Tinubu in 2027 if it starts planning and mobilizing early enough, including a possible merger.
He concluded that no one should sit in their homes and think that the presidency will fall into their laps.
“So what I am saying is that anyone who rules out Mr. Bola Tinubu cannot win the next election is a fool. Things are not that easy. To defeat him we have to go back to the drawing board. , running with helter skelter doesn't work.
“For example, it’s about time we start solving the platform problem. We’re talking about PDP because there’s a platform problem. If you’re going to do a merger, somebody’s going to get that ticket. We all need to come to the table now without assuming too much. Who will get the tickets has already been decided, and these are all practical political questions.
“If you look at the economy of people who were screaming when the economy was good, did you give money to poor northerners? Did you give money to poor Nigerians, now when the economy is bad, they will leave?” You say, you don’t know. “Once the economy recovers and people can see tangible things, how can we beat him? What if election day approaches and it becomes a question of money? Like the president?
