Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF) Chairman Shettima Yerima has said there is growing regret among some people in the northern region over the support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2023 presidential election. revealed.
In an exclusive interview with Saturday Vanguard, Yerima expressed his disappointment citing unmet expectations and disillusionment with the current government.
Mr Yerima said the northern region had immense expectations from Mr Tinubu as he believed he understood the core issues plaguing the country.
Explaining why the north is dissatisfied with Tinubu, Yerim said, “In some areas, the northern region certainly regrets that the eight years of the Buhari administration have brought nothing to the north.” Don’t forget, so the expectation was very high that Tinubu knew where the problem was. , people like me who worked with him and followed him as a role model believed that he knew a lot about the problems of this country and that he was not going to tackle them normally. He is a principled person and will be able to propose solutions to them, but people are disappointed because they don’t get what they expected from him.
“In fairness to him, things were very bad. We all knew that Buhari’s successor would have a very rocky road to success. After eight years of crap, I didn’t expect Tinubu to pull off a miracle in two years. Sure, reforms are expected, and results may not be immediate without children, but What is expected of the government is that whatever policies it enacts, there must be a buffering effect to prevent people from suffering unnecessarily.
“The people have suffered enough. If he had acted like that, no one would accuse Tinubu of having malicious intent to divide the country or try to rule over any part of the country. There wouldn’t have been anyone. He’s very exposed and not a local champion. But sometimes, even if you come up with a policy, the implementation doesn’t get the support of the people.
“North Korea is angry at the government, but the government still has a chance to turn things around within two years. Therefore, some of us may think that Tinubu may be of no use to the north. Some people don’t jump to conclusions. We know the journey is difficult. Let’s give him the benefit of the doubt and encourage him.
"If he doesn’t do anything that will positively impact people’s lives, then some of us will unite against him and vote where we know we can get better care.” We will discuss with all parties, reach a conclusion and look for alternatives. It is premature to conclude that Tinubu has failed.”
