Last weekend, Lagos became the hub of celebrations as Spotify hosted its 2024 Wrapped party at its Space Hub in Lekki. The star-studded event celebrated the global success of Nigerian music and concluded similar festivals in Johannesburg and Nairobi.
Guests included media personalities, influencers, and music lovers who came together to celebrate the rise of Afrobeats. The genre saw a 34% increase in global streaming numbers on Spotify, and a 146% jump in local music consumption.
Commenting on the milestone, Fiona Okumu, Head of Sub-Saharan Music at Spotify, said: It’s exciting to see talent like this blossom. ”
The evening was filled with thrilling performances by Nigerian and African artists. Blazey opened with his TikTok hit, while Uganda’s Joshua Baraka dazzled with Dalila and Digii IV. Rising star Fido previews his next single “Joy is Coming” before delivering his hit song “Awolowo”, while Ayo Mafu, one of Nigeria’s most streamed artistes, previews his upcoming single “Joy Is Coming” with his chart-topping song I kept increasing my energy.
Breakthrough artists like Zerrydl, Kaestyle, and Deela also shined and delivered unforgettable sets. Moravei captivated audiences with his unique sound, and the DJ took it even further. Wearethechemicals and Aniko pumped up the crowd with EDM beats, while DJ Tunez and DJ YK Mule closed out the night with an iconic mix that left fans in awe.
This year’s Wrapped party is a testament to the power of music to unite and uplift, and underscored Spotify’s commitment to spotlighting Nigeria’s rich and vibrant music scene.
