The Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the crisis plaguing the state.
The party appealed to Tinubu to appeal to the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state to prevent anarchy, which it said was a complete disregard for the rule of law.
The party’s state management chairman, Anthony Agiegbemi, made this appeal at a press conference in Benin City on Saturday following the impeachment of Oredo local government chairman, Tom Obaseki on Friday.
Mr Agiegbemi claimed that the impeachment was carried out by 12 fraudsters who infiltrated the Benin City council secretariat posing as councilors.
He then called on Tinubu to address what he called a blatant disregard for the rule of law.
Mr Agiegbemi described the impeachment by the APC-led government as a “coup” and said the development was worrying.
“We call on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene as the developments have become alarming. It is a coup d’état by the APC-led government in Edo State against democracy.
“We must issue a directive to the Edo government to avoid anarchy with complete disregard for the rule of law.
“The latest impeachment took place in Oredo Local Government where 12 fraudsters posing as city council members infiltrated the city council and claimed to have impeached the city council president, Mr. Tom Obaseki,” he claimed.
