The Labor Party (LP) has declared that it is not the property of the Nigeria Labor Congress (NLC).
The National Public Relations Secretary of the Labor Party, Obiora Ifor, who made this declaration, clarified that the NLC only helped establish the Labor Party.
According to him, it is even against the law for NLC leaders to get involved in politics as the NLC’s constitutional mandate is strictly for the welfare of the workers.
Naija News reports that Mr Ifor made the remark in an interview with Punch newspaper published on Thursday when asked about the frosty relationship between the party and the NLC.
The party maintained that it was owned by Nigerians and that responsibility remained with them, not the NLC. Ifor added that the role of the NLC political committee does not include takeover of political parties.
A Labor Party spokesperson added that the law interprets their relationship with the NLC and they are considered to be aware of their boundaries.

According to the rules governing political parties in Nigeria, their authority ends there. This means that political parties are owned by Nigerians and are private entities.
