Peter Obi, the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate for the 2023 election, said he did not seek free tickets or special treatment ahead of the 2027 election.
Naija News reports that this came after Peter Obi was exposed in the 2027 general election suggesting that he would be given automatic tickets to the contest.
The party also refuted the claims of a similar arrangement against Abia Governor Alex Otti.
The rebuttal follows recent remarks by Abayomi Arabambi, the propaganda secretary of the party’s faction party, who said that Obi will return as the party’s flag bearer to challenge President Bora Tinubu in 2027.
Arabambi made his claim while appearing as a guest on Politics, a channel television program.
In response to development, LP’s national propaganda secretary, Obiora Ifoh, in an interview with Punch, dismissed Alabambi’s claims, stressing that such a decision did not emanate from party leaders.
He further emphasized that the party will follow legitimate procedures in selecting candidates for the next general election.
However, Peter Obi, who spoke to the above publication via his media aide Ibrahim Umar, said he didn’t care about such trivial things.
Umar said his principal always emphasized the need for a level playing field where individuals can compete fairly and freely. He urged LP supporters and the public to focus on issues that really matter, rather than being influenced by misinformation narratives.
He said: He has consistently defended the importance of good democracy and sound competition, recognizing that these factors are essential to a prosperous democracy environment.
“It is important to note that Peter Obi has never asked for free tickets or special treatment. Instead, he always needs an equal arena where individuals can compete fairly and freely. We have emphasized sex, and we urge our supporters and the public to continue to focus on issues that really matter, rather than being influenced by misinformation stories.
“Peter Obi’s dedication to promoting excellent governance, economic growth and social justice remains unshakable. Let’s work together to build a brighter future for Nigeria. This is a matter of democracy, equity and equality. It is guided by principles.
“The actions and decisions of our principals continue to be driven by these values and ensure that Nigeria is on the path to prosperity and greatness.”
