The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) ignored the court’s ruling by suing elections of members of the Zone Committee and the national judiciary in the Northeast Region.
Naija News reports that the election has banned the party from holding the election after a federal high court ruling in Abuja, which was overseen by Justice Obuiora Atuegwu Egwuatu.
However, during the elections held in Bauchi State, Alhaji Babangida Modibo Umar was elected as the new Northeast Zone Chairman.
Dr. Nicholas E. Muchelisa and two other people (as plaintiffs) have launched legal action against the PDP. Its national chairman, national secretary of the Treasury, national organizational secretary, national vice-president, state speaker, national labor committee (respondent).
The decision, which was made on February 21, 2024, was instructed by Judge Egwuatu under Case No.: FHC/ABJCS/298/2025:
“That means that in the tentative case, there will be nothing to render the subject matter in the nougat.
“The parties are to maintain the pending status quo when respondents show the cause from Friday, February 21, 2025.”
Naija News reports that the issue has been postponed to February 25, 2025.
Surprisingly, the PDP ignored the verdict and held parliament on Saturday in preparation for the party’s national convention.
Election Commission Chairman Reuben Okoya declared the election results, with all 22 candidates being elected without opposition.
The election attracted many representatives from the Northeast subregion took place at Dr. Lilwanusleiman Adam Square, located in the Government House of Bauch.
Notable attendees included PDP representative state chair Amb Umar Iliya Damagun, along with PDP governors of Adamawa, Bauchi and Taraba.
Additionally, various national and state assembly members were present along with Sen. Abdul Ahmed Ningi, Sen. Hassan Dankombo, former Governor of Ahmed Adam Muaz of Bauchi State, and other influential figures. .
The party’s national chairman said that smooth execution of parliament is evidence of party unity and strength.
Additionally, newly elected Zone President Babangida Modibo Umar expressed his gratitude to his representative and promised to meet the faith placed on him.
He became the successor to Pastor Emmanuel Bovoir from the province of Taraba.
The PDP’s Northeast Zone Conference is part of the party’s broader initiative to reorganize and strengthen its structure in anticipation of the national convention.
The party has issued a schedule for the 2025 zone meeting. This includes elections for members of the Newzonal Working Committee and former state officials.
