The immediate past governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, has said he lost the 2023 election because he did not consult God.
He disclosed this on Tuesday in Makurdi, where G14 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) paid a courtesy visit to him.
The G-14 members are PDP elders from the 14 Tiv-speaking local government areas of Benue.
Ortom told the group that God told him not to run in the 2027 election.
The former governor said he had no choice but to honor God’s wishes.
Mr Ortom said the PDP was determined to capture the Benue Government House in 2027.
According to him, he ran unsuccessfully for the Senate in 2023 because he did not consult God.
He said: “I will not run in the 2027 election. I knew why I lost the 2023 election, but I did not consult God.” I accepted it without consulting God.
“God revealed everything to me. He asked me to wait on him.”
Ortom further revealed that while serving the state as governor, he made extensive sacrifices, including abandoning his family and friends at one point for the sake of national service.
The former governor pledged to continue supporting the party, adding that no person’s ambition should exceed the party’s interests.
He said he wanted to go on sabbatical after leaving office, but his elders opposed it.
