The Federal Government of Nigeria, through the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), on Thursday partnered with Michigan’s business community to promote blue economy and space technology.
It was noted that this trade mission aims to promote business opportunities and establish trade relations and will serve as a unique platform for cooperation.
NASRDA Executive Director, Dr. Matthew Adepoju, made this known at the ongoing NACCIMA-GABA trade mission in Michigan, stressing the importance of Nigeria’s space program and highlighting its role in socio-economic development.
Mr Adepoju said: “Our space efforts aim to harness the vast potential of space technology, not just for Nigeria but for humanity as a whole. This event is a collaboration to advance Nigeria’s space agenda. This is extremely important in exploring new initiatives.
“We are excited by the prospect of integrating space technology into maritime operations to increase operational efficiency.”
Dr. Felix Ale, Director of Media and Corporate Communications at NASRDA, spoke in a statement about the potential for partnership in the blue economy and maritime domain awareness.
The delegation, led by NACCIMA Chairman, was warmly welcomed by Monroe Mayor Robert E. Clark, who emphasized the economic importance of the Port of Monroe.

“Our ports are transforming into centers of economic growth and attracting major industrial development,” Clark said.
He highlighted the port’s advances in areas such as wind energy and lithium battery production, demonstrating Michigan’s commitment to sustainable economic growth.
The delegation also visited the Detroit Port Authority, where discussions focused on blue economy initiatives and potential partnerships in the application of space technology.
Another highlight of the conference included presentations on investment opportunities in smart city development and technology hubs.
As trade missions continue, both Nigeria and Michigan remain optimistic about the long-term benefits of cooperation in advancing both the blue economy and space technology.
The commitment shown by both parties could pave the way for breakthrough developments that benefit not only their respective regions, but the entire international community.
