…highlights the evolution of the communications sector.
From Lagos, John Silas
MTN Nigeria recently hosted students from Rome Business School, a globally recognized institution for innovative and industry-focused business education, at its headquarters.
The study trip, in line with Rome Business School’s mission to develop global business leaders, aimed to explore sustainability-driven practices in Nigeria’s telecommunications sector.
In his keynote address, Friday Okwe, Senior Manager, Brand, Media and Sponsorship, said: “The telecommunications sector has revolutionized the Nigerian economy, creating an entirely new economy and creating income opportunities for millions of Nigerians. ” he emphasized.
“Today, telecommunications is bridging the literacy gap, connecting Nigerians and linking the country to the global village.” Mr. Okwe also said that changing consumer needs and circumstances have led to MTN becoming the most popular choice for traditional telecommunications companies. We also shared how we have evolved into a leading technology company. “As the situation changes and consumer needs evolve, we will adapt.
The MTN of 2001 is very different from the MTN of today. We have transformed into a technology company because we recognize that technology plays a vital role in every aspect of life. ”
he added. Speaking on MTN Nigeria’s evolving business environment, Edith Leblanc, a Rome Business School student with experience working on digital transformation in the European Union, asked questions about MTN’s data protection and privacy laws using the European telecommunications industry as an example. I did.
Okwe explained that data protection is a top priority for MTN and a comprehensive framework is in place to protect customer data. “Data protection and data privacy laws are evolving in Nigeria. It is the law of life that we live and every employee at MTN undergoes a course on data privacy and data protection.
These frameworks are in place to ensure that the 79 million subscribers we serve are adequately protected. ” he said. Mr. Okwe also noted that Nigeria has made significant progress in data protection with the Nigerian Data Protection Act 2023 (NDPA) establishing a legal framework for personal data regulation.
The Act replaces the Nigeria Data Protection Regulations (NDPR) 2019 and aims to protect citizens’ right to privacy. The discussion also touched on the company’s commitment to its employees, with Vivian Omolegbe, Employee Experience and Transformation Manager, MTN Nigeria, saying: The Employee Value Proposition (EVP) was launched in 2021.
“Our EVP is a promise from the brand to its employees in exchange for their contribution to the brand,” Omolegbe explained. “We prioritize the growth, happiness and satisfaction of our employees and recognize that they play a vital role in driving our success.”
The event highlighted MTN’s commitment to driving shared value and industry-leading connectivity operations in Nigeria through innovative digital solutions.
