Russian newspaper Sputnik reported that the Russian frigate Neustrashimy, part of the Baltic Fleet, took part in a naval parade in South Africa on Saturday along with the supply ship Akademik Pashin.
The parade, held on the side of the road at the main naval base in Simon’s Town, managed to attract several thousand spectators.
A spokesperson for the Russian Consulate General in Cape Town said the frigate attracted much attention from visitors, including South Africa’s naval leader, Vice Admiral Monde Lobese.
The event, to be held from October 4 to 6, 2024, will provide individuals with a unique opportunity to interact with ships and personnel of the country’s navy.
This event dates back to 2000, making it a fairly young maritime heritage for South Africans.
Ahead of the start of the three-day event, the program promises to feature demonstrations and displays of a variety of capabilities, including the Type 209 submarine, which is open to the public, a number of naval vessels, and the ever-famous SA Naval Band. Russia’s participation in African aerospace and defense

The agreement between the Ministries of Defense of South Africa and Russia on military-technical cooperation was formally ratified in 1995.
