Senate Minority Leader, Abba Moro, has expressed dissatisfaction with the local government elections held in Benue State.
He called it a sham and an affront to democracy.
Naija News reports that local government elections were held in Benue State on Saturday, October 5th.
The Benue State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC) on Sunday declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) the winner of the total 23 local councils.
In a statement by his media aide, Mr. Emmanuel Esheofun John, the senator claimed that reports from polling stations across the senatorial district showed that the election did not take place.
Mr. Moro, who represents Benue South senatorial district, said the election materials and BSIEC officials were “not seen anywhere except at the premises of APC leaders where thumbprints are stamped on candidates’ ballot papers.”
The senator expressed disappointment that Governor Hyacinth Aria “did not adhere to truth and due process as promised during his campaign.”
Moro said he expects the governor, as a clergyman, to promote a paradigm shift by doing the right thing and not referencing or imitating what was done wrong in the past.
He said democracy was being fiercely contested and some people were paying the highest price, and that anti-democratic forces would not be allowed to destroy the democratic system.
