Pensioners in Ogun State have appealed to the state governor, Governor Dapo Abiodun, to provide health relief. The appeal was made on Saturday by the Ogun State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Mr Widi Oloyede, who said the health relief would ease the burden on many residents who are battling some ailments due to old age and other factors.
Pensioners say medical relief should be provided under the National Health Insurance scheme so that retirees who enroll in the scheme can receive a 50% discount.

Speaking at the Pensioners’ Day celebrations in Abeokuta, Mr. Olowede said, “This meager amount is not enough to buy medicines for various health problems or to meet the demands of current economic realities. is also completely inappropriate.” I hope that Your Excellency will cooperate in implementing this consequential adjustment to alleviate the suffering of elderly people who are in financial need.
“I would also like to draw your attention to the fact that most, if not all, elderly people struggle with some type of health challenge. It is appropriate to say that we need the kind of health relief provided by the insurance system. We fervently urge that an additional 50 per cent benefit rebate or discount should be applied to those who wish to enroll.” Mr Olowede said.
Mr Oloyede, however, commended Mr Abiodun for addressing the issue of outstanding pension arrears with quarterly payments of 500 million Naira, which was later increased to 2 billion Naira and capped at the recent payment of 5.3 billion Naira. stated that it has been established.
