Former Nigerian senator Ishaku Abo has condemned allegations of corruption in the judiciary.
He maintained that Nigeria’s democracy would not grow unless the judiciary was overhauled to deliver justice and not injustice.
In an interaction with journalists, Mr. Abbo spoke about the reservation in Yola.
The former senator, who was removed this year by the Abuja-based Court of Appeal after winning a court case to be reinstated in the Senate for a second legislative term, claimed incidents of vote-buying were more pronounced in the House of Representatives. . More than an actual trial in the true sense of the word.
“My delegate was kidnapped in court by judicial robbers who were sitting on the judicial throne.
“Judgment comes from God, so your appointment as a judge means you represent God on earth. When you gather them, you will answer before your Creator on the last day,” he said.
He further said, “A top judicial officer along with his wife came to my hotel room in Abuja and demanded money on behalf of the judge in charge of my case, on camera recording. I would like to speak with his associates to ensure that his career is not prematurely terminated due to bribery.”
The senator highlighted the height of corruption in the judiciary and also pointed out that political leadership in the north was being corrupted by the self-interest of some leaders in the region.
“You cannot blame President Bola Tinubu because the majority of Northern leaders went to him and negotiated not on behalf of the North but for their personal interests, so they have already negotiated with the whole North. We are harvesting what belongs to us,” he added.
Regarding his political ambition to run for governor in 2027, he said he is currently consulting with stakeholders and plans to make his ambition public shortly after the consultation concludes.
