Nollywood actress Yvonne Jegede has revealed why she is shaving her natural hair for a role in an upcoming movie project.
TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reported that the actress shared the transformation on her Instagram page, explaining that the move was necessary to fully embody the character.
According to the veteran actress, she has been growing her hair for 10 years. She had to cut it out because a physical change was needed to connect more deeply with the character beyond dialogue and emotion.
Yvonne Jegede emphasized her commitment to her craft, saying she is not afraid to push boundaries to deliver exceptional performances.
In addition to going bald for a movie role, Yvonne Jegede also revealed that she is studying to speak proper Yoruba.
She writes: “I have always believed that in order to tell a true story, you need to give your all to the role, even if it means stepping out of your comfort zone. This was the catalyst for my decision to cut my hair for the upcoming movie ‘AJA’. It wasn’t an easy decision, but it required me to fully embody the character I was entrusted with bringing to life.
“AJA is a powerful film produced by the incredibly talented Titi Orile that tells a story that demands depth and transformation. We are currently filming in Badagry, Nigeria. This is where the story becomes even richer and more authentic. The film features some of Nollywood’s best talents, including Rotimi Fakunle, Bianca Ugowan, and Gbofunmi David, who are sure to thrill audiences. Celebrities from the deaf industry also make special appearances.
“For this role, I knew I had to go beyond just dialogue and emotion. I needed to make a physical change to connect more deeply with the character. Cutting my hair meant just changing my appearance. It wasn’t about giving up my comfort and embracing a new side of myself for the sake of the story. I’ve always believed that as an actor, you have to be ready to push boundaries, and this role is one I’ve always believed in. definitely does it for me.
“This decision also reflects my dedication to my craft. I take acting seriously and believe in fully immersing myself in every role I take on. ‘AJA’ is my It’s a unique project that will be a challenge for me, and I’m ready to give my all. It is important to become the character from the inside, not just the appearance.
“I love my job so much that I can’t take any risks…I see myself as a tool to convey the right message. If the script is worth it, I can bring life to the story. Apart from this drastic change, I can now speak proper Yoruba.”
