The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Emeka Beke, has declared that former Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi, remains the party leader in the state.
Beke added that despite Amaechi’s silence, the former minister remains a powerful force and member of the APC.
He also denied rumors that Mr. Amaechi is no longer involved in politics, especially at the state level.
“Mr. Amaechi continues to be the leader of APC in Rivers State. There is no reason not to write a complete book on Amaechi on the political history of the state, especially on APC.
“Mr. Amaechi remains very active in politics and remains a member of the APC. He supports the APC in fielding candidates in the elections,” Beke said.
According to a report in Naija News, the APC Chairman stated this while presenting the party flag to flag bearers of the 21 local government bodies in the state ahead of the local government elections in the state scheduled for October 5. It is said that
Mr Bheke added that Mr Amaechi was fully aware that APC was participating in the upcoming elections and the party’s candidates had his support.
While reiterating that APC will participate in the local government polls, Beke said the party’s candidates are being vetted by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) and all are eligible to contest Saturday’s polls. he added.
He called on security services to remain neutral and play their role in ensuring free, fair and credible elections.
Mr Bheke also criticized former Governor Nyesom Wike but praised Governor Siminalai Hubara.
He said: “These candidates have been vetted by RSIEC. They are eligible to stand in the elections. Some people think the elections will not be held, but they are dreaming big.
“Let us urge security personnel to warn people who try to cause trouble. Rivers State has been a theater of war under former Governor Wike. But the governor we have now is God fearing. That’s why people who cause trouble are chased down to the hole by the security guards.
