The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has distanced itself from speculation and support for the 2027 governorship election, saying such discussions are premature and not on the agenda.
There had been speculation that Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, and Mudashiru Obasa, the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, had ambitions to become governor.
In an interview with Daily Trust, the National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Saye Oladejo, blamed the unfolding drama on the opposition party seeking to create unnecessary controversy.
Mr Oladejo said: “The party has not said anything about the 2027 elections. This is a time for influential governance and not unnecessary political activities to heat up the polity.”
He added that there was no conflict between Mr. Seyi Tinubu, Mr. Obasa or other candidates in the party.
“I do not recall any part of the speaker’s speech where he drew battle lines with Seyi Tinubu or anyone else. This is simply an attempt by the opposition to exaggerate the situation to stir up unnecessary emotions. ” he said.
Mr. Oladejo also stressed that the party is focused on the upcoming parliamentary and 2025 local government elections and urged party members to prioritize unity and progress.
However, reacting, the Lagos PDP leader, Philip Iwoji, denied his party’s involvement in the alleged endorsement.
“Someone responded from APC that the appointment of Lagos State governor is not a child’s play. What do you want me to say about that again? It is not my party. One can insinuate anything,” Ivoji said. he said.
Asked about Mr. Oladejo’s allegations against the opposition, he said, “Well, I am not behind it. Whoever is behind this kind of evil against Lagos State, that person is a dictator."
