The Labor Party (LP) has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State of planning to rig upcoming local government elections in favor of its candidates.
The party says the APC plans to manipulate the electoral process and undermine the democratic choices of the people.
Naija News reports that local government elections in Ogun State are scheduled for November 16.
But Labor called on the State Independent Electoral Commission during Thursday’s election campaign to ensure voters’ votes were accurately counted.
Addressing party members at a press conference at the party headquarters in Abeokuta, state party chairman Lucman Jagun said Governor Dapo Abiodun would have confidence if the ruling party was not involved in a well-organized scheme to rig elections. He argued that there would be no case for it. that his party would win 100 percent of the local government elections.
Jagun said: “What is the APC scorecard? APC has brought nothing but hunger, misery, poverty, suffering and tears to the people.
“Ogun State has a lot of arable land, so the price of basic food items has gone through the roof. Gari, which was once the food of the common man, is now unavailable. Some families cannot afford to eat twice.
“Parents are now going all day without eating to make sure their children eat at least once a day.
“My scorecard is F9!” It’s about P8 at most. They are planning to rig the elections and we will resist it with the help of the impoverished people of Ogun State.”
Mr. Jagun called on Mr. Abiodun and OGSIEC Chairman, Mr. Babatunde Osibodu to make history by ensuring that the voice of the people is supported in the upcoming local government elections.
He noted that six of the party’s 20 leadership candidates withdrew from the race due to concerns about the ruling government’s commitment to a fair electoral process.
Jagun confirmed that 14 chairperson candidates and 106 councilor candidates from the party will actively participate in the local government elections.
He encouraged people to reject poverty, hunger and the effects of the ruling party’s misgovernment by voting Labor in local government elections.
Jagun stressed that the party is ready to introduce a new approach to governance at the local level.
He said the party’s campaign focuses on promoting infrastructure development, starting an agricultural revolution, ensuring access to primary health care, and promoting transparency and accountability in local governance.
In response, the National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Tunde Oladunjoy, dismissed the opposition’s claims as completely absurd and baseless.
Oladunjoy said: “That’s a laughable comment. Cowards die many times before they die. Let the Labor Party pretenders mention the scorecard, if any, that can be tested in the APC.”
