The All Progressives Congress (APC) has said the claim by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate for the 2023 election, Atiku Abubakar, that the election was not lost but stolen is most ridiculous.
The party’s national communications director, Felix Moruka, said this in a statement in Abuja on Tuesday while reacting to Abubakar’s comments on the election results.
Abubakar, who is also a former vice president, said under the handle X that he did not lose the 2023 presidential election and claimed the election was stolen from him.
Reacting, Morka described Abubakar as Africa’s most notorious presidential election loser, noting that he has lost elections to every president elected since he served as vice president.
“Six times in the last 17 years, Nigerians have declared their verdict on Mr. Abubakar’s presidential candidacy and lack of sportsmanship, rejecting him outright at the voting booth.
“Mr Abubakar’s long record of electoral defeats has been recognized one after the other by Nigeria’s Supreme Court, judicially and constitutionally confirming his rejection by voters.
“But Abubakar, who is clearly unabashed, continues to falsely claim that he did not lose the 2023 presidential election. It is beyond ridiculous,” said an APC spokesperson.
He said he did so because he likely believed the former vice president had lost all five previous presidential elections.
Molka added that Abubakar’s inability to accept the reality of rejection cuts through a sinister portrait of extreme and disturbing political despair.
He added that intelligent and discerning voters in Nigeria would not act against their best interests by electing Mr. Abubakar as president.
According to Moruka, the former Vice President is a central figure in the roll call of our country’s most despicable corruption scandals perpetrated by the PDP regime and has been implicated repeatedly.
“He was the vice president of the government that created the perverse and viscerally corrupt gasoline subsidy, the hydra-headed dragon, that crippled our economy.
“And laid the foundation for the endemic corruption and inefficiency that has plagued our power sector for years.
“His eagerness to become president can only be understood in the context of his determination to completely destroy Nigeria’s economic life from the point where he left off as vice president.
“Nigerians will not entrust their country to someone who puts his own selfish interests and the interests of his cronies above the national interest,” Moruka said.
He added that his recent enigma by announcing that things would be different if he were president shows that he has nothing to offer Nigerians.
Mr. Molka said that since Mr. Abubakar’s release, all he has offered is stale, tired, tried and failed economic ideas that are diametrically opposed to the current existential economic challenges facing this country. He added that it was clear that
He added that the former vice president had the opportunity to implement every economic idea he ever came up with, but failed to do so.
He further added that as Vice President, Abubakar was unable to get his party, the PDP, to do so throughout his 16 years in power.
“Mr Abubakar thinks he can fix Nigeria, but he cannot fix the corruption and hopeless dysfunction of the PDP,” the APC spokesperson said.
He called on Nigerians to firmly support the APC government of President Bola Tinubu and make valiant efforts to reinvigorate the economy for the benefit of all Nigerians.
