The Delta State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed support for the recent arrest of former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, terming it as a positive move in Nigeria’s anti-corruption efforts.

Naija News reports that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested Okowa, a former governor of Delta State from 2015 to 2023, on charges of embezzlement of funds and suspicious financial transactions and contracts during his tenure. It has been confirmed that this has been done.

APC statement signed by the state Public Relations Secretary, Valentine Onojegwuo. He shared this with journalists in Asaba and commended the Federal Government for its decisive action.

The party encouraged the EFCC to extend its surveillance to other former governors and officials.

APC noted that the arrests represent a broader national commitment to combating corruption and ensuring that public resources benefit the people rather than serving private interests.

The statement read, “We at the APC wholeheartedly welcome the news of the arrest of former Governor Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, who presided over the worst financial recklessness and mismanagement of monumental proportions in history during his eight years in power. .

“His corrupt actions led to the diversion of huge sums of state funds for personal enrichment, establishment of banks, and financing of his ruinous presidential ambitions, as well as the diversion of much-desired Delta State. Changes were seen being manipulatively imposed with his puppet godson as governor, against the will of the people.

“No one is above the law, regardless of their position or political affiliation.

“The fight against corruption must be unwavering and thorough, and I am glad to see the administration taking bold steps in this direction.”
