The opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau State has vehemently rejected the results of the local government elections held on Wednesday, branding the exercise unfortunate and vowing to take legal action against the results.
Speaking at a press conference at the party secretariat in Jos, the state capital, on Saturday, APC Chairman Rufus Batule clarified the party’s position and asserted that it would not accept the election results.
Mr. Bathure particularly criticized the distribution of confidential materials to local authorities and their subsequent handling in various constituencies and polling stations. He argued that these mismanagement undermined the integrity of the electoral process.
He said: “It is true that the election materials, particularly the ballot papers, were grossly inadequate because 10% to 20% of the requested amount was deliberately given to the polling bodies, which are mainly considered to be APC strongholds. It is.”
“Furthermore, in these designated areas, no result sheets were provided at all for reasons best known to PLSIEC.Despite all complaints and representations made to the Electoral Commissioner, nothing This unfortunate scenario was compounded by the supply of faulty voting machines that never worked, and in most polling places, voting machines rarely lasted more than two hours.
“We know that this is rigging and a sophisticated way to disenfranchise the people. The worst part was that in some areas, elections were not held and ballots were not collected at PDP strongholds. Despite this manipulation and sophistry by PLASIEC and the PDP-led government, the people remained unfazed and voted for the candidates of their choice.
“PLASIEC personnel, especially returning personnel, fled across the state without waiting for the collation of results as required by law.”
Mr. Bathure, however, called on party supporters to remain calm and stick with the party, vowing to do everything possible to restore the party to its responsibilities.
