The All Progressives Congress (APC) has won all 18 chairperson seats in the Cross River State local government elections held on Saturday, November 2nd.
The Cross River State Independent Electoral Commission (CROSIEC) Chairman, Dr. Ekong Boko, announced the results on Sunday at the commission’s headquarters in Calabar.
APC secured top seats in all 18 local governments including prominent councils such as Abi, Odukpani, Bakassi and Calabar South. After the announcement, the winners were awarded a return certificate.
In a statement congratulating the newly elected officials, Governor Bassey Otu said the election was peaceful and praised the actions of his constituents.
He expressed optimism that the new chairperson would prioritize good governance in line with the vision of the state government.
“We have a clear vision for our state and believe that our new leadership at the local government level will be aligned with our agenda and dedicated to providing quality governance for our people. Governor Otu said.
Nine opposition parties, including the PDP and the Labor Party, participated in the election but did not field candidates in all 196 local government council wards in the state, leaving several APC candidates unopposed.
