The All Progressives Congress (APC) has won all 20 chairperson seats in the Ogun State local government elections held on Saturday.
Naija News understands that a total of 613,156 votes were cast in the chairmanship election across the 20 local government areas.
APC also won municipal council seats in all 236 wards in the state.
The election results were announced by the Chairman of the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC), Babatunde Osibodu, at the commission’s headquarters in Oke-Irewo, Abeokuta.
However, the Chairman of the Labor Party (LP) in Ogun State, Biodun Jagun, disagreed with the results of the local government poll and described the entire exercise as a sham.
He called for the entire exercise to be canceled and threatened to challenge the results in court.
“There were no elections at all in virtually all polling stations in Ogun State. As of 1:30 p.m., over 90% of polling stations had no OGSIEC staff in sight, and polling stations had no election materials. “At some polling stations where election materials were delivered, they were incomplete and were delivered around 1 p.m. instead of the scheduled start time of 8 a.m.,” he said.
“We completely reject any results announced in this sham election. Even the good people of Ogun State have expressed their opinion on radio and television that there was no election in Ogun State. .”
“We call on OGSIEC to cancel the entire election for clear violation of the election guidelines of the Ogun State Electoral Act. If they fail to do so, we will reject any results announced. And we intend to activate the necessary mechanisms to challenge this travesty in court.”
