Former All Progressives Congress (APC) Rivers State gubernatorial candidate for the 2023 election, Tony Cole, has expressed his views on the continuing political turmoil in the state.
According to Cole, lasting peace can only be achieved if four influential people come together to discuss it.
Speaking on Arise TV’s Morning Show on Tuesday, Mr Cole stressed the importance of resolving the crisis, especially in view of the recent local government elections in Rivers State.
Cole suggested President Bola Tinubu could facilitate talks if he was serious about restoring peace in the region.
He named four key figures: former Governor Peter Odili, whom he describes as the father of the current political dynamic, as well as Rotimi Amaechi, Nyesom Wike and current Governor Siminarayi Hubala.
He said: “I have already said that some actors need to come on board, four of them should sit at the table and decide that Rivers State University is more important than their personal interests and agendas. Until then, there will be no peace.
“Former Governor Peter Odili, the father of this political dynamic, must sit at the table. His Excellency Rotimi Amaechi must sit at that table. Then Nyesom Wike and Siminalayi Fubara must sit at that table. I have to sit down.
“If the President really wants peace in Rivers State, he can oversee this and he has to make a decision that this is the way forward.”
Cole warned that failure to convene the conference could lead to an escalation of the conflict, predicting that “unless the conference is convened, there will be an all-out war the moment the era of Hubala comes to an end.” did.
