The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has won the September 28, 2024 local government elections in Anambra State, overwhelmingly winning all chairmanships and parliamentary positions across 21 local government areas and 326 wards in the state.
Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) Chairman Genevieve Osakwe confirmed APGA’s landslide victory at a press conference on Sunday.
She announced that the party won all 21 seats for the chairmanship and secured 326 councilor positions, as confirmed by the results from the wards.
Mr. Osakwe said the electoral process was one of the most transparent, praising the committee’s thorough efforts in collating and verifying the results to ensure their accuracy.
In the announcement, she outlined the final vote tally for APGA candidates and declared the candidate with the most votes in the various wards and local government areas as the winner.
Mr. Osakwe thanked the people of Anambra State for their active participation and commended the security agencies for their role in maintaining peace and order during the electoral process.
“This confirms the results of the chairman and councilor elections held on September 28, 2024. The committee has carefully collated and analyzed the results to ensure that there are no errors.”
“Yesterday, we ensured that all scores and political parties were announced at the polling stations. We are here today to confirm the results recorded. The elections held at the polling stations were free, fair and credible,” Osakwe said.
While APGA officials and party representatives were present at the ANSIEC office at the time of the announcement, opposition party representatives were conspicuously absent when the final results were announced.
